To enable you to make the very most of your stay at Birdsong we now have on offer a range of hosted activities for you to enjoy. We will tailor make an itinerary to suit your holiday schedule and personal interests and take you on an awesome adventure.
Options for One Night Stays
Option 1. ATV Rides
A 20-30 minute/person excursion through the forest to the hill top offering panoramic views over the Little River area. Take this opportunity to experience the exhilaration of riding forest trails on the back of a quad bike.
Option 2. Guided forest nature walk
We offer you a short pep talk on the local wildlife and follow it up with a guided 30 min trip through our forest, use your clipboard to tick off the birds you might see/ hear and send the record back home as a postcard memento.
Option 3. Hosted evening meal
Let us cook an evening BBQ meal for you on the Lodge balcony and entertain you with local history and colorful stories.
Meal choices - Asian dumplings (10). Pork or Beef with fresh roasted vegetables and condiments OR
- European Style sausages & steak with fresh roasted vegetables and condiments.
Complimentary Tea or Coffee & after diner treats.

Option 4. Stunning Sightseeing Walk (allow 4 hours)
We have a number of guided walks in and around Akaroa Harbour that showcase the amazing panoramic views of the area. Visit an 1800 year old Totara tree or climb to the top of an old Maori Pa (village) site and relive a little local history. We can even escape to a wonderfully secluded sandy bay during the summer months, taking in the spectacular Okains Bay Maori and Colonial Museum on the way. For all these adventures there will be ample opportunities for photo shoots.
Option 5. Inner Harbour Boat Trip (allow 5 - 6 hours)
Please note : this trip is weather dependent
A boat excursion for up to 4 people exploring the Akaroa inner harbour. We take a look at the Akaroa Salmon Farm and with it the chance to buy a fresh salmon for dinner - straight off the wharf!! Then cruise across the harbour to Akaroa township where we set you off the boat to explore the town, sample the shops and find some lunch. Then we head for home and on this part of the trip you may even be lucky enough to glimpse the extremely rare and endangered Hectors Dolphin (Pahu) - the smallest dolphin in the world and found only in these southern waters of New Zealand. On our car journey back to the lodge we will call into the famous Barry's Bay Cheese Factory (if open) to sample their wares and possibly see cheese making in action.

Barry's Bay Cheese Factory
With a history of traditional cheese making since 1895. We stop in here to sample their array and watch the cheese making process.
Along the Summit Road, almost directly up from Akaroa, lies Hinewai Scenic Reserve. We take a trip through this amazing reserve - wandering the tracks that lead us through native bush and talk to the world renown ranger who runs it : Hugh Wilson.
Okains Bay Museum
The Okains Bay Maori and Colonial Museum is a true national treasure - an absolute must see destination.
Little River Craft Station
We call in here to peruse exquisite wares from local craftspeople - and sample the delicious coffee!
Onawe Walk - Akaroa harbour
Steeped in Maori history and offering spectacular views of Akaroa Harbour. We visit this on our way to Akaroa.
